Water Choice

Saltwater vs Chlorine

Believe it or not, you do get a choice in what type of water you want in your pool, salt water or chlorine.
What is the difference?

Saltwater Pools:
  • Use a process called "Electrolysis" which actually produces chlorine to disinfect the water, but not nearly as much as a chlorine pool uses.
  • There are lower chlorine levels which makes it gentler on the skin and eyes.
  • Because of the natural chlorine, saltwater pools require fewer chemicals in comparison.
  • Saltwater pools are a more expensive choice because it requires a higher initial investment.
  • They are more complex to take care of so repairs must be done by a licensed professional.

Chlorine Pool:
  • The initial investment is less. Much less.
  • Chlorine pools use less electricity as they only require a pump for circulation.
  • Most chlorine repairs can be done by you, or by a licensed professional, but it will be a lot cheaper to fix.
  • Chlorine is a harsher chemical on your skin and eyes because it is constantly cleaning.
  • The chlorine content must be checked on a regular basis to ensure your pool is being kept clean.
  • Chlorine must be stored free of moisture in order to keep the cleaning components alive.
